Direct Payments

Direct payments give people more choice and control over the support they receive, enabling them to live independently. Direct payments are available when people would otherwise be offered directly provided services to help with housing, employment, education, social activities as well as for domestic and daily living tasks and personal assistance.

We are supporting a local project which is producing a DVD featuring clips of people telling their story of how direct payments have helped them. We will be using this to promote the benefits of direct payments to health and social care staff across the region.

Here in the North East, Yorkshire and Humber region a lot of work has been going on to gather information on how direct payments can help people to live independently, and how health and social care staff can support people who want to apply for a direct payment. Much of this information is now available on this website and we will continue to add to it over the coming months.
