Race Equality
This programme aims to provide better and more culturally appropriate services for people from black and minority ethnic communities who use mental health services, their families, friends and carers.
This work also links with the workforce, training and education programme, to ensure a representative workforce is developed and staff are provided with appropriate training and guidance.
Focused Implementation Sites (FIS)
Focused Implementation Sites aim to improve services in mental healthcare for BME and excluded groups. FIS work across a whole system to implement 'Delivering Race Equality in Mental Healthcare' (DH 2005) with the aim of achieving the five year vision stated in the report.
There are 4 Focused Implementation Sites in this region:
- Northumberland, Tyne & Wear
- County Durham & Tees Valley
- South Yorkshire
- Bradford

Respect for People! - Free Access for NHS Staff. The e-learning version of the Grass Roots Diversity Team's Respect for People programme has just been adopted as the NHS's standard on-line diversity programme. It will be possible for staff to access the programme free of charge. It is being delivered via the NHS's Core Learning Unit. Staff have to register individually but it is also possible for trusts and other NHS organisations to appoint an administrator - for more details check their web site www.clu.nhs.uk (be patient - it does take a while to link through - the site and links are currently under review) or e-mail them at clpu@sysha.nhs.uk.
